UN votes reject reject Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

-Many countries vote against President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
-The US had earlier threatened reprisal on countries that vote against its decision on Jerusalem.


The United States was on Thursday, left stranded by many of its allies over agitations which followed President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital.
The United Nations General Assembly had put to vote a resolution calling for the U.S. to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The results revealed a total of 128 countries voted against Trump’s decision, 8 supported the decision of the US President, while 35 countries abstained from voting.
Information obtained by Naija News, reveals Nigeria was part of the countries that voted against the US declaration on Jerusalem.
Trump had earlier threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favour of the UN resolution.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the UN vote against US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
In a statement released in Hebrew language, the Israeli leader however stated despite the outcome, his country was satisfied by the high number of countries that didn’t vote in favour of the UN resolution.
“We reject the decision of the UN but we are satisfied by the high number of countries that didn’t vote in favour of this decision.”
